We built up a Ritchey Outback for a BC based customer this week who is planning to ride the 800 km Dempster Highway this summer. It has a Shimano GRX Mechanical group set, with 650B GRX Wheels and 48-31 / 11-34 gearing for the hilly terrain. She will have the option to add fenders, front and rear carriers later.
The Dempster Highway is made of fine ground rock surface that when is wet gets slick. The 650B x 47mm Maxxis Rambler Tires will provide great stability. Clara Hughes, who has ridden it twice, mentioned to us that the Dempster highway is a drivetrain eater and when she reached Inuvik, her cassette and derailleur pulley wheels were like pointy stars.
