What is Mariposa Bicycles - Bicycle Specialties Ltd?

Mariposa Bicycles - Bicycle Specialties Ltd. is a handbuilt custom bicycle manufacturer.  We also restore vintage bicycles, paint bicycles and we have an eCommerce store in which we sell bicycles , components, wheels, bicycle accessories and cycling clothing.  The brands that we sell include: Mariposa, Pinarello, Ritchey, ENVE, Rene Herse, Princeton Carbonworks, Zipp, LUN, HED, DT Swiss, Vittoria, Continental, Shimano, SRAM and Campagnolo.

What are Mariposa Bicycles store hours and location?

We are open Monday to Friday 9:30am to 5pm and we are located at 45 Cranfield Road Unit 6 Toronto, Ontario M4B3H6 Canada

What types of bicycles does Mariposa make or sell?

Steel and carbon road, allroad, gravel, cyclocross, track, randonneur, touring and track bicycles.

What services does Mariposa Bicycles offer in addition to custom steel bicycles?

Vintage Bicycle restoration, Bicycle Retail, Bicycle painting, Bicycle fitting and mechanical service. We also have a wide range of bicycle components, wheels, tires, accessories and clothing available in our online store. We also organize and lead cycling tours in Spain and France.

Pinarello, Ritchey, Mariposa, ENVE, Princeton Carbonworks, Shimano, SRAM, LUN, Zipp, Rene Herse, Continental, Vittoria, Campagnolo, Silca, Muc-off, 100%, Brooks England, Giro, Lazer and PRO.

How does the Mariposa custom bicycle fitting process work?

We fit cyclists on bicycles that we build and sell here.  In order to book a fit, please call or e-mail us.  They typically take 1-1.5 hours and we request that you bring your current bicycle, cycling shorts and cycling shoes when you come for your fit. 

What’s included in a full bicycle overhaul or tune-up?

We wash and review the bicycle, as well as do safety checks.  We replace any worn or damaged parts.  We tune the bicycle and lube any parts necessary. 

Do you offer wheelbuilding or wheel repair services?

Yes, we build, true and repair wheels. We also sell manufacturer built wheels, such as ENVE, Princeton Carbonworks, Zipp, LUN, HED and DT Swiss.

How long does it take to build a custom Mariposa bike?

4-12 weeks depending upon the type of bicycle ordered and the current queue.

Do you paint carbon bicycles and restore vintage bicycles?

Yes, we paint carbon, steel, titanium and aluminum bicycles and do full restorations of classic steel bicycles.

E-commerce & Shipping

Can I order bicycles, apparel, components and accessories online?

Yes, bicycles, apparel, components and accessories are available at mariposabicycles.ca and we ship orders within 1 business day.

How much is shipping?

Shipping within Canada on regular parcels is $19.99, unless it is an oversize or overweight item.  Shipping is free on orders over $500 unless it is an oversize or overweight parcel.

How long will it take for my order to arrive?

Orders usually ship within 1 business day, and delivery times depend on your location. You'll receive a tracking number once your item ships.

Will my bike arrive fully assembled?

Bikes shipped by courier usually come approximately 80% assembled. We can provide instructions for easy final assembly, or you can bring it into our shop for professional setup.

Do you offer local pick up?

Yes, we offer local pick up in Toronto at our workshop / warehouse.

When was Mariposa Bicycles established?

Mariposa Bicycle was established by Michael John Barry in 1969 in Toronto, Canada. Since 2014, it has been carried forward by his son, Michael Ira Barry and his wife, Deirdre "Dede" Barry, who are former professional and Olympic cyclists.

What is the history of Mariposa Bicycles in Canadian cycling?

Mariposa is one of the longest running handbuilt bicycle brands in Canada. National Champions have raced to glory on Mariposa bicycles and cyclotourists have ridden them around the World.

Who founded Mariposa Bicycles?

Mike Barry Sr. founded Mariposa Bicycles in 1969 and it has been carried forward by his son, Michael Barry Jr. and his wife, Deirdre Barry, who are former professional and Olympic cyclists.

Who are some well-known cyclists who have ridden Mariposa bikes?

Michael Barry, Dede Demet Barry, Ashlin Barry, Scott Hastie have all won National titles on Mariposas. Dede won the 2002 World Cup in Montreal on her Mariposa. 

How has Mariposa contributed to cycling in Canada?

Mariposa, and the Barrys, have organized numerous events from races, to charity events, to youth development programs to bike tours to bring more people to cycling by sharing their love and knowledge of the sport. Mike Barry and Mike Brown were responsible for founding the Ontario Randonneurs.
