Over 40 Years Of Design Innovation

Tom Ritchey is one-of-a-kind. He continues to juggle his duties as president and lead designer of our company, which now has products distributed in over 40 countries – and he still logs at least 10,000 miles per year all over the world. Inspiration often comes to him while out on a ride, generating ideas that he then processes as three-dimensional design images – in his head. This is followed by the creation of initial concept models, many of which he creates by fillet brazing pieces or scraps of frame tubing. It all comes naturally to a guy who taught himself to build frames as a teenager, and who designed some of the burgeoning mountain bike industry’s first frames and components back in the 1970’s. Every year Tom guides our R&D efforts in pursuit of both subtle improvements to existing products or large-scale advances leading to new ones.

THE OUTBACK FRAMESET

The Outback was awarded “Best Bike Packing Bike in 2020”.

The Outback has several practical and adaptable features make the bike versatile. Rack and fender mounts help to keep things dry and expand the load-carrying capacity for longer bikepacking adventures, while clearance for 700c x 48mm or 650b x 2.0in tires allows the bicycle to be used on extremely rough terrain. The frame accepts flat-mount disc calipers, and the new all-carbon fiber Ritchey Adventure Fork. Multi-purpose mounts on the fork blades gives you more places to stow supplies for longer trips. TIG-welded with proprietary triple-butted Ritchey Logic steel tubing, the Outback frame is well built, resilient over the harshest terrain and responsive.

THE OUTBACK BREAKAWAY FRAMESET

Tom Ritchey rides about 10,000 miles per year, and he loves those long boundless rides where the surface changes from gravel to tarmac and everything in between. Combine that with his more than 40 years of designing and building bicycles, and it’s no wonder the Outback has become an icon in the gritty world of gravel and adventure bikes.

Tom also loves to travel. Inspired by an inherent passion for experiencing different cultures and a ceaseless desire to explore the world by bike, Tom designed the new Outback Steel Break-Away® for those of us that appreciate the versatility of the Outback and possess the wanderlust to travel with it to far-off destinations – this bike is for everyone who has demanded a steel Outback Break-Away over the past few years.

The Outback Steel Break-Away easily and quickly disassembles to fit into its own included sturdy travel case, which helps you avoid airline extra baggage fees. Once you arrive at your destination, the bike assembles with ease – allowing you to quickly get out and go. Rack and fender mounts help keep things dry and expand the load-carrying capacity for longer bikepacking adventures, while clearance for 700c x 48mm or 650b x 2.0in tires opens up a whole new world of possibilities. Doubling down on the Outback Break-Away’s practical and mobile performance, an all-carbon fiber Ritchey Adventure Fork with multi-purpose mounts on the legs gives you more places to stow the supplies you gather at the last café or gift shop – wherever that may be. Outback Break-Away now sports an updated one-piece dropout for flat mount brakes that features a unique truss design offering the same reliable strength but with less weight.

Swiss Cross 2024

THE SWISS CROSS FRAMESET

Possibly the most iconic frame associated with Ritchey, the Swiss Cross draws its name from early factory rider, cyclocross and mountain bike legend Thomas Frischknecht. The first iteration of the Swiss Cross in 1994 was a no-holds-barred race machine designed for one thing: ripping through dirt like no other. Captained to numerous victories under Frischi, the Swiss Cross went on to become one of the most revered frames of the Ritchey offering – proving itself a winning combination of Tom’s framebuilding mastery and Frischi’s dominance in racing.

As a true ‘cross ripper or a fast gravel racer, the Swiss Cross remains lightweight and compliant, and offers the winning combination of confident responsiveness and razor-sharp handling. Its race-ready geometry will ignite the competitive spirit, while clearance for 40mm tires will appeal to those who’s pursuits reach beyond the course tape.

The Swiss Cross is painstakingly TIG-welded with proprietary triple-butted Ritchey Logic steel tubing that now sports an updated one-piece truss design for flat mount brakes – providing as much stiffness and strength of previous mounts while reducing chainstay weight significantly.

Whether it’s ticking off the grueling miles of a gravel race or leading the charge on bell lap, the new Swiss Cross is more than capable of tackling it all. Go fast. Get dirty.

Ritchey Montebello

THE MONTEBELLO FRAMESET

The Montebello perfectly represents how a bike’s design is a solution to something greater than achieving forward momentum. Even though long-distance rides, called brevets, randonneurs, or audaxes (depending on where they happen), date back more than a century, creating bikes uniquely suited for riding hundreds of kilometers at a time has been less of a priority. Each year Tom Ritchey averages about 15,000 miles in the saddle, which doubles as his “lab” for designing new bikes.

Not simply another road bike, the Montebello adds features and design touches aimed at riders who desire to ride longer than long-distance rides. Built with proprietary triple-butted Logic steel tubing, the Montebello sports increased stack, a longer wheelbase, and a lower bottom bracket than its Road Logic sibling. Such geometrical choices deliver a welcoming and stable ride when you see the sun set and rise again. Other practical features of the frameset include fender and rack mounts that Ritchey fans have been asking for.

This unique frameset also includes the new WCS Carbon Brevet Fork designed specifically for this frame. With clearance for 40c tires without a fender — or 36 with a fender, this fork has special mounting options for either a porteur or lowrider rack on its legs, and threaded drilling in the crown for attaching said rack lights. Ideal for long rides, internal Dynamo routing is fast becoming standard among Ritchey adventure forks. And, of course, the Brevet Fork sports the hallmark of Ritchey forks – a 1–1/8th straight steerer for a precise yet forgiving ride experience. Rack and fender mounts, Internal Dynamo Routing, Porteur or Low-Rider Rack Mounts, and External cable routing w/ routing for Di2 12 speed.
