Tired of overhauling your bottom bracket or replacing the bearings? SKF designed their cartridge bottom bracket from the ground up to optimize strength and durability. The bearings run on races ground directly into the spindle and the shell, so SKF can use larger balls and rollers to spread the load. To keep the bearings running smoothly, SKF designed and patented multi-stage seals that retain the grease and keep out water and dirt. The entire bottom bracket is made from stainless steel and aluminum, so it won’t rust. However, this also makes the spindle more brittle than Cromoly. The SKF bottom brackets meet the ‘City/Trekking Bike’ standards for fatigue resistance, but not the highest ‘Racing Bike’ standards to which other Rene Herse components are designed. Many other high-end bottom brackets also use stainless steel spindles, and SKF bottom brackets perform fine under most riders, including very strong ones. However, if you tend to break components, we suggest you look elsewhere for a bottom bracket. Color of the left cup may be different from image (silver or red, depending on model).
